Centre for History and Sociology of Indian Medical Heritage

This centre is at this stage being conceptualized. It is expected to establish an innovative, modern Museum of the Indian Medical Heritage covering folk & codified traditions across time & geography. It will have sections dealing with surgery, pharmacology, pharmacy, natural resources, botanical art, medical paintings, literary history, medical manuscripts, foreign influences and modern developments. It will support doctoral research programs on the history and sociology of India’s medical heritage. It will also consist of a contemporary museum & archive, on the living health traditions of the country, documented in multi-media formats, manuscripts & printed publications on India’s medical heritage, collected from within India and abroad. In this regard the Centre has initiated dialogue with foreign libraries like the Welcome Library in UK. (See appendix for concept note on Contemporary Museum of India’s Medical Heritage).
