School of Conservation for Natural Resources
The Centre for Conservation of Natural Resources used in ISM under FRLHT IAIM is engaged broadly in conservation, sustainable se and augmentation of resource availability. Currently it works on establishment of MPCAs across the country. There are 87 MPCAs in 9 states. In the next two years another 21 are expected to be established in the three states of Arunachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand and Chhatisgarh under the GEF project. The centre work in close relation with the state Forest departments and the community for the implementation of the projects. This centre is the nodal agency for nationally coordinated projects of MoEF CCF II in 9 states and MoEF – UNDP GEF projects in three states.
The centre is also engaged in developing protocols for sustainable harvesting of traded species in the southern states. A new study for species recovery in MPCA has taken up.
The group has been engaged in preparing Community knowledge Registers (CKRs) and promoting Home Herbal gardens (HHGs) to meet the primary health care needs of the community. An effort has also been made to main stream the Traditional Practices into the official health care delivery system.
The CCNR is also fostering its plans to expand its coverage to metals & Minerals and fauna used in ISM.
Programme for capacity building is an integral part of the groups activity.
